Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Reiki?
A: Reiki is a form of energy healing that emerged from Japan. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
Reiki is transmitted usually by the laying of hands on a person, but can also be sent into the aura, with the eyes, breath, and over distance. It is the highest vibration of Universal Love. It can do no harm.
Reiki is not a religion but a practice of energy work.
Reiki helps bring the mind, body, emotions, and spirit all back into balance. The body has an innate ability for healing- Reiki assists in removing any blockages or stagnant energy so that healing on all levels can occur.
Q: What should I expect from a session?
A: We will start off by discussing what you would like to focus on for the session. We will get payment out of the way first.
After that, you relax on the massage table (clothed) while I gently place my hands on you, starting at the crown of your head. The session will include placement of my hands near each of your chakras following down the body, as well as any other areas that need specific attention. There will be only safe touch- no touching on the breasts, genitals, or buttocks. Once all of the chakras have been worked on and balanced, I will clear your aura and ground you.
I will gently tell you that the session is complete, and tell you to take your time getting up. We will end the time together by talking about anything that may have come up while you were on the table, any questions you have, or any messages that I may have picked up intuitively. It's as simple as that!
Q: How can I tell that it's working?
A: Most people experience some physical sensation when receiving Reiki, such as warmth, cold, tingling, pins and needles, or goosebumps. You may also feel more relaxed, energized, emotional, or tired. Everyone reacts in a different way, you won't know until you've tried it! Even if you don't feel anything, don't worry- sometimes the only way you know that it's working is by seeing the effects of it in your life ripple outwards.
Q: What can Reiki be used to heal?
A: Reiki can used to heal many things. Because it works on all levels (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual), it deals with issues in all of these realms. Some common ailments that can experience benefits from Reiki are depression, anxiety, headaches, stomach aches, insomnia, body pain, fears, and anemia. Anyone can benefit from Reiki!
**Practitioners are NOT doctors, and do not diagnose or treat any illnesses or advise clients to go against anything that their physician has told them.
Although Reiki cannot magically heal a broken bone, or stop someone from dying if it is their time, the benefit of this work is that it can help ease some of the pain or fear around a situation, bringing more ease and peace.
Q: Why do you charge for Reiki?
A: I am not necessarily charging for the Reiki itself. I am charging for the training and expertise that has taken years to build, as well as for the time that I am investing in you. Beyond that, as with any service or energy, there must be an equal exchange for the situation to be balanced.
Money is not always the best exchange, so I am also open to bartering if that feels better. At a certain point, though, I am charging money so that I can support myself and continue to offer this beautiful work to the world.
Q: Why should I wait between Reiki classes?
A: Once you are attuned, you go through what is called the 21 Day Shift. You are literally raising your vibration by getting attuned and doing Reiki, and so you need time to acclimate to this new vibration, and clear whatever old stuff that may be holding you back. You also need some time to get more comfortable with this new part of your life, gain some confidence, and learn about your own connection to the energy.
This way, you are more prepared for the next step than if you just took the next class the day afterwards.
